The Greater Charleston, SC Metro Area is comprised of three counties - Charleston County, Berkeley County, Dorchester County. The rapid expansion of The City of Charleston since the 1960s further complicates what constitutes “Charleston.” Charleston city limits now encompass approximately 104 square miles with its northern boundary formed by the Francis Marion National Forest and ending at Wadmalaw Island.
